Minimalist Mama Beginnings: Baby Registry Spreadsheet
July 8, 2011
Minimalist Mama started as a spreadsheet. For the whole story, check out the About page. Short version: Astrid is our first baby and when I looked around to see what we needed to have on-hand for her when she was born, I was swamped by a flood of product information and suggestion lists, most of which didn’t seem to match our personal style (modern, minimal) and space restrictions (city apartment). So I sat my pregnant self down and made a spreadsheet.
I combined all the lists I saw of what you need for a new baby, read a book or two, looked at about a million product reviews, and consulted my friends with kids (what they bought, why, did they end up needing it, could they have borrowed it, and so on) and sorted out my final final list of what our little one was going to have on-hand.
I ended up with this great, hard-won, one-time-use knowledge. So I decided I’d post all my research and info, just in case an editorialized list with some candid opinions from the other side of having a baby might be helpful for other minimalist mamas. Or just space-deprived mamas. Or mamas who don’t want their house to look like a daycare landed on it.
Please feel free to use it – that’s what it’s for! I left lots of spaces for storing links to things you like, recording things as you buy or register for or receive them + who gave it to you, so you can send a thank you card…since babies leave you with tons of free time to send thank you cards. Really. Good luck with that.
